Choosing the Road Less Traveled: Why “Sage” Travels?
In 2022, I stood at a crossroads. I had twenty years of service, great benefits, and a promising severance package on the horizon—if I just waited for the "return to office" mandate to play out. On paper, the "safe" move was to wait.
But inside, the fit had changed. I wanted to live fully now. I had work to do in the world, family memories to make, and a hunger to see what was truly possible.
So, I chose a different path. Since then, I’ve built a company, pivoted, and served leaders across the globe—from billion-dollar brands to local small businesses. And now? My husband, our son, and our dog, Boh, have traded our stationary life for a 200-square-foot "home on wheels."
Welcome to Sage Travels.
The Saboteur’s Wall of “No”
The name of this blog is born from a framework at the heart of my coaching: Positive Intelligence (PQ). When we first contemplated this move, the "Saboteurs" in our heads were loud. These are the voices wired for survival that prioritize safety over fulfillment. They whispered: “You can’t do that. It’ll never work. What will the neighbors say?”
The Saboteur brain specializes in fear and contraction. It wants to keep you in a role that no longer fits simply because the unknown feels dangerous.
The Sage’s Bold “Yes”
We didn't let the Saboteurs drive; we tapped into the Sage. This part of the brain is the seat of wisdom, empathy, and clear-headed action. It doesn’t ignore reality; it thinks critically and creatively. Our Sage perspective allowed us to see that the "risky" move was actually the most rewarding one. We chose the road less traveled as a bold, intentional move to shape our family’s future and my professional impact.
Your Permission to Edit
I’m sharing this journey—from mountain vistas to the messy reality of RV life—to be proof of a human truth: You don’t have to stay where you are. Whether you are a senior leader on the cusp of a transition or someone who feels their current stage doesn't fit, you can challenge the instinct to stay "safe." You can choose a path and edit as you go.
